Sundarban-World largest mangrove forest (My experience) 2022

World Largest Mangrove Forest

I always love the long boat rides. So when my friend Sumit told me he features an add Sundarban and it’s an extended boat journey if I wish I can join with him. I didn’t even take a second to reply yes. Yes, Sundarban I’m coming. The next morning I boarded a Train from my nearest railroad station and Sumit joined me after some stations. Within one hour we reached Canning, the closest railhead of Godkhali, the gateway of Sundarban. Godkhali is merely a one-hour further journey from Canning. Bus, Auto, Hired vehicles are available in Canning for Gokhale. We booked an Auto ad that reached Godkhali. As our boat was prebooked So we also didn’t even waste one time and began our journey through the river network.

Within less than 15 minutes I felt the essence of Sundarban and understood why this is called the world largest Delta and mangrove forest. Our boat was running through a river, both sides of the river were densely covered by mangrove trees. Some villages were also there within the forest.

On our journey, we passed many villages. Interestingly where the population is high forest was becoming thin. Here people live with nature. The river is merely a way of transportation. Interestingly on our journey a while our water-way became narrow sometimes became wide. It’s a standard fact of the Sundarban water channel. Let’s know more about Sundarban-World largest mangrove forest

Now we are during a narrow river within the interior a part of Sundarban. Our boat was running simultaneously with a continuous ‘dug-dug’ sound. Time was passing fast like each side view. Sun was on the highest. during this winter noon here we were facing a chilled breeze. Our boatman told us “Sundarban is legendary for its Royal Bengal tiger but it’s not an area to only advance and expect meeting ‘His highness’ any time”. Yes, this is often a real fact. only a few lucky among the many Sundarban visitors get an opportunity to ascertain the Royal Bengal tiger to its own land. We were still going, on our way we passed many small boats. Fishing may be a part of life here. We found many within the interior part. After 3hours long journey we finally reached our destination. After living our boat we entered a village called Sodhakhali.

Life here is governed by the increase and fall in tide. I started conversations with villagers. I came to understand most of the faculty in Sundarban have boarding facilities. Still thanks to lack of connectivity most of the varsity has very less students. I spend one hour with the villagers. In between my friend also completed his work.

So it had been time to return. Again it’s an extended boat journey back. Sun was already beginning to set within the West. The sky was becoming reddish. We saw many various sorts of birds on our return. Most of them are Grey Heron, Kingfisher, Sand Pipit, flame back, Kingfisher. The temperature was also getting down. From our boat, we saw a glimpse of the sunset.

I found water network became much busier than noon. Like me, everybody was returning home. Again after three hours journey we finally reached where we started. it had been a pleasant journey.

At the top of the day, I noticed Sundarban blessed us with its greenery, birds, people, rivers. Everywhere in Sundarban people will mention Tiger. you’ll always feel here something is watching you from the jungle, sometimes as a killer, sometimes as an almighty. Tiger in Sundarban is treated just like God, the almighty, the survivor.
